MOOC Media and digital literacy for teaching

Goals
To strengthen educators’ capacity to foster students’ media, information and digital literacies, including the ability to search, evaluate and use online information, AI-generated content, media messages and scientific claims responsibly. To support teachers in embedding critical thinking, source evaluation, argumentation, misinformation resilience and democratic citizenship competences into everyday subject teaching without replacing existing curriculum goals. To support teachers in posting articles online and convert their lessons to include reallife problems.

Target group and educational context
The MOOC is suitable for educators from all subject areas because media and digital literacy, critical thinking and democratic citizenship competences are not limited to one discipline. The MOOC will support teachers in recognizing misinformation and empower them to publish information of what they do online. It will also support them to include the real life problems into their lessons.

How to implement
The MOOC is implemented online, asinhronously. All teacher can join and do it in their own pace.

Why it is inspiring
This practice is effective because it translates broad 21st-century competences into concrete, teachable and assessable steps. Instead of treating media literacy, critical thinking and citizenship education as abstract add-ons, the MOOC helps educators weave them into everyday teaching across subjects. The practice is worth implementing because it is scalable and flexible. As an online MOOC, it can reach educators across institutions. As a competence-based model, it can be adapted to different subjects, age groups and school contexts.
